On Monday, November 29, NSW Health announced a total of 150 new cases of COVID-19 across the state, with 170 people currently in hospital with the virus including 25 in intensive care.
Zero deaths were recorded in the past 24 hours in NSW, and the state has reached a 92.4 per cent double-dose vaccination rate against COVID-19 in the population aged 16 and over.
The identification of a positive case in the Muswellbrook LGA comes after fragments of the COVID-19 virus were detected in sewage in the Denman treatment plant on November 17.
At the time, there were no known cases of COVID-19 in the Muswellbrook LGA and at the time, Dr David Durrheim, Public Health Physician, HNE Population Health urged members of the community to continue coming forward for testing even if they were experiencing mild symptoms.
"We remind our communities that infection is still possible even when we are fully vaccinated, and we can still transfer the virus to someone we love, including small children who are ineligible for vaccination, or vulnerable people in our community," Dr Durrheim said.
"People should not go to work, and should get tested, if they are experiencing any symptoms."
In other COVID news, NSW Health confirmed on Sunday, November 28, that genomic testing undertaken on two overseas travellers revealed they had been infected with the new Omicron B.1.1.529 COVID-19 variant of concern.
NSW Health said both passengers came to Sydney from southern Africa on the evening of Saturday November 27 and underwent testing on arrival and tested positive for COVID-19.
The two positive cases, who were asymptomatic and fully vaccinated against COVID-19, are in isolation in the Special Health Accommodation.
