That’s one of the messages ahead of this month’s National Op Shop Week.
Held from Sunday to September 1, the event encourages people to donate items they might no longer need, but still have plenty of life in them for someone else to use.
Muswellbrook charity store Vinnies is promoting Op Shop Week and wants to spread the word that good quality, clean clothes and used furniture are in demand.
Vinnies supervisor Carol O’Brien said the organisation was in short supply of furniture at the moment, but encouraged people to donate quality items.
“About 85 per cent of everything we get is rubbish,” she said.
“If you can’t use it, then no-one else can either.
“We need furniture that is in good shape, but not things like large wall units, which are too heavy.
“We can pick up and deliver things once they are sold.”
Any clothes still in good condition are accepted gratefully, but children’s clothes to suit youngsters aged six-to-16 are in short supply.
Mrs O’Brien asked that people place clothing and small item donations in bags and put them in the charity bins at the front of the store, not on the ground.
Muswellbrook Vinnies is located in Bridge Street.
