The top grade and reserves travelled to Jesmond to take on Merewether Advance.
Up first, the reserves grabbed the win, scoring five unopposed goals.
“We dominated the game,” coach AJ Spradbrow said.
“We got a goal five minutes in and Merewether were nowhere to be seen for the rest of the game.”
Goalscorers were Thompson (two), Hubert (two) and Shearman.
In the main match, five of the first grade defenders were tired from the start after playing in the reserves.
“They scored early,” Spradbrow said.
“We had a few missed opportunities, but then we got one back.
“In the second half we came back hard; we dominated the first 20 minutes.”
The Eagles put away three goals during the game, but unfortunately there were two own goals – leaving the score 3-all
An injury to the Muswellbrook keeper saw the game end minutes early.
Goals went to Botham, Lanesbury and Kane.
This weekend the Eagles play their first games at home for the season, in what will be a grand final rematch against Charlestown City Blues.
“We will be nearly at full strength,” Spradbrow said.
“It will be good to see the reserves with a full squad.
“It is going to be a very fiery game (in the first grade).
“There is still a lot of anger from last year.”
The reserve grade will kick off at 1.15pm on Sunday at Victoria Park, Muswellbrook, followed by the first grade at 3pm.
Spectators are more than welcome to head along and get involved with the action.
