Ausgrid says a band of thunderstorms cut electricity to 961 premises in the Aberdeen area on Thursday afternoon.

The network operator confirmed the first lightning strike to affect power supply was logged by its computers at 5.11pm.
It said crews were dispatched to find the location and nature of the fault, including checking sub-stations and driving the transmission lines.
Ausgrid is urging customers to call 13 13 88, or go online at www.ausgrid.com.au, to advise if they’ve lost power, or have noticed a change to their normal supply.
Meantime, the Bureau of Meteorology’s Duty Forecaster, Mick Logan, said the storms were the result of westerly winds from the inland converging with an unstable atmosphere that developed over the Tasman Sea.
“The westerly winds met the easterly winds along the NSW Great Dividing Range and that triggered showers and thunderstorms.
“Some of those storms were strong enough to bring a brief burst of heavy rain and small hail from Cooma in the south to Tenterfield in the north,” Mr Logan said.
