Work on the refurbishment and part extension is expected to begin in four weeks and will cost $6.45 million.
The Adamstown-based company operates in the Newcastle and Hunter Valley region and completed work at Denman Primary School as part of the Building the Education Revolution school infrastructure program.
Muswellbrook Shire Council said funding for the redevelopment of Campbell’s Corner had come from three sources, including a $2 million grant from the Hunter Infrastructure and Investment Fund.
BHP Billiton subsidiary, Hunter Valley Energy Coal Pty Limited, has made a $500,000 contribution as part of a voluntary planning agreement it has with council.
Muswellbrook Shire mayor Martin Rush said the contribution by Hunter Valley Energy Coal was made in compliance with the miner’s obligations under Section 93(f) of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979.
Council said it could not comment on arrangements made with tenants regarding individual leases, re-location or compensation as the matters are commercial-in-confidence.
It’s understood one tenant at Campbell’s Corner will re-locate to a temporary off-site location during construction and one tenant will be relocated within the building.
In 2011, council paid $3.2 million for Campbell’s Corner, which was built in 1870 and had its tower added in 1910.
