Muswellbrook’s Australia Day Ambassador is working hard to add to her growing list of achievements in the pool.
The 16-year-old claimed gold in the 100m freestyle at the Commonwealth Games last year, setting a world record time of 1:05:32. Elliott also won gold at the 2012 Paralympic Games in London as part of the 4x100m freestyle relay team.
She claims a strong determination to represent her country again is behind a relentless training schedule of more than 20 hours a week.
“I want to go as far as I can,” she told the Chronicle.
“I’m aiming to make the World Championships later this year, which will be back in Glasgow, and I want to make the Rio Paralympics next year.
“Hopefully, if I’m still in the mood for swimming, I might make Tokyo in 2020 as well.”
Elliott, who was the youngest Australian ever to win a medal in the Paralympics at just 13, said one of her proudest moments was meeting a national sporting icon.
She was introduced to Socceroos star Tim Cahill this week ahead of their clash with UAE.
