The Holden Scramble, a four-person elimination Ambrose, is set to be played at Muswellbrook Golf Club on July 11.
Qualifiers from the local fixture will go on to represent the club in the regional finals, where they are in with a shot of making it to the
championship event on the Sunshine Coast. Long-term Muswellbrook golfer Garry Johnson, who joined the club in the 1980s, said it would take a real team effort to progress past the first stage of the tournament.
“You’ve got to play exceptionally well to move on to the regional finals,” he said.
“You need to pick your own team, and I think at least two players need to have a handicap of 30.
“Most of the really good teams that end up winning usually have a low marker and a B grader who can hit a long ball.
“It’s the same for everyone in golf though; it doesn’t matter if you can hit long if you then can’t make the putts.”
Prize money for the scramble is expected to reach around $2500, mostly consisting of golf-related material such as drivers and bags.
Johnson praised major sponsors, Muswellbrook Holden, for their contribution to the competition over a number of years.
“The golf club really appreciates Graham and Suzanne Sealey’s support of us, local charities, and sport in general ever since they’ve been around town,” he said.
“He and his wife have given far and beyond what normal sponsors do.”
Tee off is set for 8.30am, with entries closing on July 10.
