The 28 year-old is second in command of a combat team made up of elite soldiers. These teams will often find themselves in challenging, diverse and sometimes very remote environments.
“A combat team can consist of over 120 soldiers from different disciplines who are ready to manoeuvre within the battlefield,” Mr Marshall said.
“My role is to ensure that all personnel, vehicles and weapon systems are trained and prepared to be deployed in accordance with the Commanding Officer’s orders,” he said.
A highlight of Mr Marshall's career so far was providing support during the devastating cyclone season of 2011.
“I was deployed on Operation YASI Assist and we worked as a first response task force to provide aid and support. I’ll never forget how thankful the locals were for our presence, they had just had their homes knocked down and it was incredible how the community came together for support,” he said.
Mr Marshall appreciates the way the Army has allowed him to grow and progress through his career.
He has completed a Bachelor of Business and English at the University of New South Wales (Australian Defence Force Academy) and is currently studying a Master of Business Administration at the University of Southern Queensland.
“The Army takes you to exciting places and allows you to have experiences that you will not find anywhere else.
“If you enjoy being outside and working in a unique environment with people who will remain friends for life then the Army is for you.
“In the ADF you form unbreakable bonds due to the nature of work and the things you experience together,” he said.
