Clocks move forward one hour from 2am.
The one hour shift forward, from Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST) to Australian Eastern Daylight Time (AEDT), will stay in place until April 3, 2016.
Daylight Saving is also observed in Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania and the ACT.
Queensland, Western Australia and the Northern Territory do not turn their clocks forward over the summer.
Daylight Saving operated nationally during World War One from January 1, 1917 to March 25, 1917 and during World War Two for three summers, beginning on January 1, 1942.
Daylight Saving was re-introduced in New South Wales on October 31, 1971 after the Standard Time Act 1971 was passed by the NSW Parliament.
