The Lioness Club of Muswellbrook hosted their club judging last Wednesday, November 18, at Muswellbrook Workers Club.
Contestants were Caleb Jones, Owen McLeod, Brock Matthews, and Kylie Connor, who were judged on their public speaking by Muswellbrook Information Centre’s Casey Gilbey, Muswellbrook Shire councillor Malcolm Ogg, and Muswellbrook Holden principal dealer Graham Sealey.
Every Lions Club or Lioness Club can host a club judging, and eligible contestants are chosen from the high schools in the club’s area.
The winners from each competition in each town qualify to compete at the zone judging in autumn 2016.
Caleb Jones won in the public speaking category, Brock Matthews was the overall winner, and Owen McLeod was awarded second place.
“By running these contests, we give students the experience in an interview situation,” Lioness Club of Muswellbrook secretary Wilma Holmes said.
“They have a separate day where the judges meet with them and interview them on their role in the community, wheat leadership experience they have performed at school and their knowledge of current affairs.
“This gives them an idea what is expected of them when they are interviewed for positions of employment in later life.”
