The club’s biggest day of the year raised $10,000 in a little over four hours for Muswellbrook Hospital’s emergency department.
A crowd of about 200 people gathered at Highbrook Park to pay tribute to former Heelers who had passed away, and many made vital contributions.
Muswellbrook Hospital’s health services manager Wendy Hordern said it was a very generous donation from the rugby community.
“This will be going towards much-needed equipment in the emergency department which will improve patient comfort.
“It’s really appreciated that a donation’s been made to this department, so thank you to the rugby club for its generosity.”
Heelers president Greg Buckley said to raise such a large amount of money in one afternoon was a fantastic effort.
“Everyone was very passionate and giving on the day,” he said.
“We auctioned off 25 jerseys on the day, and that alone raised about $3500.
“For a club that’s not very big, and in around a four-hour period, to raise this much makes you proud to be a part of it all.
