In the biggest tournament of its kind in the southern hemisphere, the Mambas’ girls’ 14s and 18s both reached Sunday’s quarter-finals.
While the younger side made it through to the semis, the older outfit’s campaign ended with a top eight result.
The 14s, contesting the JSC Taylor Cup, pipped the Easts Roosters 3-2, drew 2-all with the Hornsby Lions and fell 3-2 to the Northern Beaches Renegades on the opening day.
But, the team bounced back on Saturday to beat the Forster Tuncurry Tornadoes 4-0, tied 2-all with the Wallsend Wolves, upstaged the Wollongong Devils 2-0 and crushed the Yamba Yabbies 8-0 for a play-off berth.
The Mambas then eliminated Nelson Bay Neptunes 5-2 and neighbouring Singleton Storm 7-4 to set up a semi-final showdown with the highly-ranked Manly Sea Eagles.
Despite trying hard, the locals went down 19-6 with the Sea Eagles claiming the title.
In the JSC Rose Cup 18 girls’ preliminary rounds, the Mambas accounted for the Balmain Tigers 4-2, Sydney University Lions 5-1 and the Inverell Kestrals 4-1, dropping one match to the Parramatta Eels 5-1.
They then knocked over the Port Makos 13-4 to progress to the quarter-final.
However, the Mambas suffered a 20-3 loss to eventual finalists Newcastle City Knights.
Muswellbrook was also represented in the JSC Zabielo Cup 12 boys, JSC Vassallo Cup 12 girls, JSC Yiangou Cup 14 boys and JSC Toohey Cup 16 girls.
