Following another brilliant round on Saturday, the local sportsman hit the top of the leaderboard with one day remaining.
Perry, a former Muswellbrook Golf Club junior, also carded a six-under par on Friday.
The Riversdale Cup is Australia’s second oldest amateur 72-hole golf tournament.
More than 250 men and women from around the world compete in the Melbourne event each year.
The history of the Cup is such that most of Australia’s leading professional golfers have played in the tournament over the years, including Jason Day, Adam Scott, Mark Leishman, Geoff Ogilvy, Robert Allenby and Aaron Baddeley – the list goes on and on.
Barnes etched his name on the winner’s list in 2003.
