Wyong trainer Brett Partelle sets sights on Muswellbrook Race Club meeting

WYONG trainer Brett Partelle will use Thursday’s Muswellbrook race meeting as a springboard to what he hopes will be greater riches with his talented but hot-headed four-year-old Invincible Quest.

The horse will resume from a freshen up in the XXXX Gold Class Two (900m) and the mentor hopes he will win well enough to warrant a look at better class races in the near future.

“There are some nice sprints coming up in the next month or two including several races at the Scone carnival which will suit him,” Partelle said.

“He is a nice horse but a quirky horse and when he first came to me he was hot headed.

“The horse is still hot-headed but gradually he is coming around.

“He’s still a work in progress.

“Having his own yard during the day and plenty of salt water swimming suits him.

“I have been in this game a long time and I have learned never to get excited about a horse but he is a nice animal and I think there is a nice race in him.”

Invincible Quest was sent to Partelle after winning a Goulburn maiden but spent 12 months on the sideline with a leg injury.

He made an inauspicious debut for him when he failed to finish at Gosford after bucking mid-race.

“He is thin-skinned and I think the saddle pinched him,” Partelle said.

Six week and two trials later he careered away to win a Class One over 900 metres at Cessnock by almost six lengths.

He goes into this race off a five week break with Aaron Bullock, who rode him at Cessnock, back in the saddle again.

This area’s newest trainer, Brett Cavanough, will have two runners at the meeting, the first time he has started horses at Muswellbrook.

Cavanough has moved a large part of his team from Albury to Scone and taken over the stables vacated by Greg Bennett.

One of his runners, Avroson will start in the Horsepower Benchmark 60 (1750m) as the next step towards the Country Cup at the Scone carnival.

“He ran second in the Country Staying Classic at Randwick last October but essentially I think he is a country cups horse,” Cavanough said.

“The country cup at Scone is the one we want with him.”
