IN a brilliant result for the Upper Hunter, a trio of talented youngsters enjoyed success at the Australian Schools Triathlon Festival (ASTF) in Sydney on Friday.
Denman’s Larnie Chapman, Scone cyclist Chloe Hollingsworth and Aberdeen athlete Kate Lloyd joined forces to represent St Joseph’s High School Aberdeen in the female intermediate relay.
And, after relegating the Northern Territory Triathlon Academy to second place, the girls returned home victorious.
Chapman gave the team a flying start in the 500m swim, while Hollingsworth continued the momentum on the 15km bike leg.
Then it was left to Lloyd to not only undertake the 4km run but hold off any rivals in the final stretch – the winning time a smart 52.33.
With beaming smiles on each of them, the three girls were presented with a gold medal at the end of the competition.
The ASTF is a new multi-sport initiative presented jointly by School Sport Australia (SSA) and Triathlon Australia.
So, it was an outstanding opportunity for the local pupils to compete against students from all over nation at the Sydney International Regatta Centre in Penrith.
