But, about 70 Muswellbrook High School students will have a special opportunity later this month to take their skills on the road.
The local performing arts pupils will visit five different schools, accompanied by teachers Jason Foy, Laura Martin, Sam Pope, Dana Hogan and Jordi Adam-Smith.
The school’s creative and performing arts head teacher Jason Foy said the tour would kick off with a farewell concert at Muswellbrook High’s Multi-Purpose Centre on Thursday, June 22.
“This is the second time we’ve done it – we did it two years ago,” he said.
“We’re going to go outside the region this time.
“We will be performing at Muswellbrook, Muswellbrook South, and Denman Public schools in our area, as well as Karuah and Bulahdelah public schools during the following week.
“We’re doing a total of six performances in this one.
“We take all our school-based ensembles, which is like the vocal ensemble, the concert band, stage band, guitar ensemble, [and] our dance group.
“We are also taking drama kids this time too, and making it into a bit more of a spectacular.”
Joining the team will be local band Forever Falling, and some Higher School Certificate student performers.
Mr Foy said schools visited in the first year provided positive feedback.
“They wanted us to come back the very next year, but we do it every two years,” he said.
“I think it’s really good because it gives what we do context.
“We need to get outside the school and show them that performing arts has a place outside the classroom.
“It’s a real audience; it isn’t just mum and dad all the time.”
Mr Foy would like to thank Muswellbrook and District Workers Club for contributing half of the trailer cost, and Hunter Prosigns for the trailer signage.
