Muswellbrook’s The Remington Motor Inn had entered the Hunter Region Business Excellence Awards, for the second year.
Site manager Tamara Peterson said they found out about the awards through the Muswellbrook Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
“We entered last year which was really good and then we got highly commended in the hospitality and tourism category,” she said.
“It all came up again this year and we thought, ‘why not?’”
And, the crew were glad they went with that decision at the regional awards on Friday night.
“We didn’t actually expect to do as well as we did,” Ms Peterson said.
“We do have a good product, we have a fantastic team.”
But, after the highly commended in their category was presented, they smiled sadly, accepting that was them for the night.
Disheartened for only a moment, they were shortly after announced as the 2017 Hospitality and Tourism winner.
The excitement continued to build as they were announced as overall finalists, only to have that topped when they were named the 2017 Hunter Region Business of the Year.
“The cheer at the back of the room at our table was intense,” Ms Peterson said,
“The girls were so excited.
“I think personally, for the team, it just proves how hard we do work.
“We have a fantastic team of 26 now.
“Everyone does work so hard every single day to make sure that every guest, every person dining in the restaurant does get the very best service, and the Remington experience.
“We’re really proud of so it’s nice to be recognised for that.
“[It gives] that reassurance that we do have the product that we say we have.
“To have an Upper Hunter business take it out is incredible.
“A really, really big congratulations to the team, I’m really proud of everyone.
“Our owners and our general manger, they’re extremely proud too.”
Ms Peterson thinks the team’s added success in 2017 was due to applying feedback from the previous year.
