THERE were a few wry grins, a couple of concerned looks but, most of all, a sea of smiling faces exited from the first HSC exam at Muswellbrook High School on Monday.

More than 60 students sat for the two-hour English (Standard) and English (Advanced) Paper 1 – and the verdict wasn’t too bad.
“It was okay,” Jayden Parker said.
“However, I prepared for this exam.
“I wrote some essays to practice for it.
“Today, we did an essay, a creative writing piece and answered comprehension questions.
“I expect tomorrow – English (Standard) and English (Advanced) Paper 2 – will be a lot harder.
“We’ve got to write three essays.”
Muswellbrook High School principal Elizabeth Bate praised the efforts of senior prep room teacher Fiona Bailey.
“It’s her role to assist the pupils, especially at this time of year,” she said.
“And, it appears it’s paid off.
“The students are feeling supported and organised – they look calm.
“They are a great group of kids.
“I, and the rest of the staff, wish them well over the next month.”
