The project was granted under round three of the Stronger Communities Grants Program to benefit the local community and increase public participation.
While Muswellbrook’s Highbrook Park already has fantastic play equipment and recreation areas, a lack of facilities for younger children was identified by council staff.
The successful project will be co-located with Larry the Lizard, a high-profile feature of Highbrook Park.
It will provide safe and accessible play equipment for toddlers between the ages of 12 months and three years at the park.
The play equipment incorporates and facilitates age appropriate activities.
These will include stepping stones, raised hop scotch and tummy swings over an area of soft fall, which will be located within the zone surrounding the tail of Larry the Lizard.
Landscaping will also be completed and surrounded by shade-covered seating areas.
“We thought it would be great to expand the equipment so our littlest ones could socially and physically enjoy the area,” councillor Michelle Green said.
“It will add to our community something all families can enjoy.”
Hunter MP Joel Fitzgibbon is delighted the unique project gained approval meaning Muswellbrook families will soon benefit from the new facilities.
“Highbrook Park is already a wonderful facility,” he said.
“But, thanks to this injection of funds, it will be a more inclusive and vibrant space.
“I look forward to returning to see our youngest in the community learning and having fun in this space.”
