The Anglo American proposal for Drayton South Coal would be an expansion of the existing mine, 13 kilometres south of Muswellbrook.
Expansion in to the Drayton south area would extend the life of the mine for 27 years.
Anglo American are proposing the construction of an open cut and highwall mining operation which would extract up to seven million tonnes of coal each year for the life of the mine.
The existing workforce would remain and up to 370 contract personnel would be required during the construction phase, current infrastructure will also be used at the new location.
A section of Edderton Road would need to be realigned during the process and a transport corridor between the existing and new mine would be constructed.
To view the application or make a submission visit the Department of Planning website at www.planning.nsw.gov.au
The plans will remain on display until December 21.
