Outgoing President Adrian Barwick outlined the club's achievements for 2023 with the most significant one being the return to Muswellbrook with last year's Spring comp seeing competitive squash played over two nights during the second half of the year.
The club gained 15 new members last year and another 12 for the start of this year and they have embraced the club's social atmosphere while eager to pick up any tips or suggestions from their team (as well as giving their tips or suggestions back to the team).
Following the elections, Adrian and Kris Agosto were returned as President and Treasurer respectively while Belinda Stephens and Jono Williams were keen to put their names forward as joint Secretary, which the members endorsed.
The Executive Committee saw Andrew Lenox not seeking reelection, but the previous members Chris Agosto, Luke McTaggart, Alex Newton, Bruce Webber and Michael Jones were joined by Paul Watson and Donna Murdoch to help add some new voices in the running of the club for 2024.
Adrian closed the meeting by reminding everyone that the key to the club's success was the positive attitude of all the members to enjoy themselves both on and off the court. Communication and respect are the keystones for the club and the members have always shown both qualities allowing new players as much of a voice within the club as the veterans.
Saturday Social Hit
Five eager players were keen to burn off some calories (ready for more chocolate on Monday) with everyone running themselves to a standstill. However, they still found the energy for a couple of doubles games at the end which broke down with too much laughing as who was supposed to be hitting the ball. As always, Saturday from 2pm is open for everybody to come down and have a hit with ability no barrier to having fun. The purpose is to enjoy yourself on and off the court and the social hit is a great way to learn squash with equipment available if required.
Sunday Morning Juniors
While the Easter eggs were calling it was good to see 5 juniors come down for a hit. After a few warmup activities Justus and Jax were put through their paces from Paul with some drills and games while Mack, Mikayla and Dominic had 2 round robins with Adrian refereeing that saw Dominic showing his improvement over the weeks winning 3 of his 4 games with all three players showing plenty of enthusiasm. All juniors are also invited to come down to Singleton Heights Squash Centre at 9.30am on Saturday 6 th April to have a hit with other juniors in the region and enjoy making new friends while the regular Sunday mornings will continue through school holidays starting at 10am.
With the Easter break behind them, players will be keen to get back in the court to pass the hallway mark once Round 8 is completed next week. There's plenty of time for teams to catch up and get into the semis but don't leave your run too late.
See you on the courts.
