About Us

The Muswellbrook Chronicle was founded in 1874. It is a paid weekly publication.

Its largest townships are Muswellbrook, Denman and Aberdeen. The town lies 124 kilometres north-west of Newcastle on the New England Highway in the Upper Hunter Valley.

The region has a population of nearly 16,000 and the main industries are coal mining, electricity generation, dairy, viticulture, beef and lucerne production.

The main tourist attractions are the historical townships, the wineries and one of the finest horse racing tracks in NSW, at Muswellbrook.

The biggest event each year is the Muswellbrook Cup which runs on the first Tuesday in November – the same day as the Melbourne Cup.

The town is also well known for its community festivals and strong coal mining history.

The Muswellbrook Chronicle also oversees the publication of the free weekly Hunter Valley News, which boasts a circulation of more than 18,000.
