And, things were looking positive when early goals from Brad Kane and Clinton Lanesbury put the Eagles up 2-0.
Soon after, Kane scored again to put Muswellbrook three clear of the home team.
Medowie opened their scoring with minutes remaining in the half, making it 3-1 at the break.
In the second period, Medowie had awoken and controlled the game for the first 20 minutes with Muswellbrook struggling to even get out of its own territory.
After a reckless tackle at the top of the box, Medowie was rewarded a free kick, which was fired into the back of the net to reduce the margin to 3-2.
This was around the time Muswellbrook flexed its collective muscle.
Headed goals from both Kane and Jaydan Klus put the Eagles three goals clear once again.
With time winding down, Medowie pulled one back to bring the score to 5-3.
Kane soon after tore Medowie’s pride in two when he snagged his fourth and fifth goal of the game, wrapping up proceedings 7-3.
Players’ player was top goal scorer for the match, Kane.
Others who played well were Shawn Honeysett, Josh Botham and Klus.
In reserve grade, Muswellbrook opened the scoring early from a fine Josh Adams’ header but this was quickly cancelled out by two Medowie goals.
Late in the first half, the Eagles grabbed the lead again, 3-2, through goals from Andrew McTaggart and Luke Doust.
Heavy rain slowed the play in the second period but not the goals.
Medowie fired back with another two to once again take the lead, 4-3.
Nearing the end of the fixture, Ryan Shearman snagged a double, putting Muswellbrook in front 5-4.
But, Medowie got one more final goal late in the game to lock it all up at 5-all.
Players’ player was shared between McTaggart and Douglas Thomson.
Others who played well included Shearman, Ian Tomlinson and Jayden Galvin.
