The closing date for public comment on the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) was Friday, June 19, 2015.
The NSW Premier, Mike Baird, and his Planning Minister, Rob Stokes, toured the site at the end of April.
The Chronicle contacted the NSW Department of Planning to establish how many submissions had been received and when they would be made public.
A spokeswoman said some submissions are still arriving and a final tally is not yet available.
In a statement, we were told the Department is still in the process of going through the submissions, and that all submissions will be made public.
The statement went on to say the applicant [Anglo American] will now be required to provide a response to the submissions received on the project.
The Department added it will consider “all submissions received on the project and the applicant’s response to the matters raised in these submissions during its assessment of the merits of the project.”
In October, the NSW Planning Assessment Commission rejected the original Drayton South proposal, saying it posed a threat to the Coolmore and Darley horse studs and was not in the public interest.
Anglo American argues its amended proposal will extract up to 96 million tonnes of coal over the life of the mine, will increase the buffer between the new mining area and nearby horse studs, and sustain 500 jobs.
The Department said those who wish to view submissions in response to the EIS next week should go to the Department of Planning’s Major Projects webpage.
