For the second week, students from Kindergarten to Year 6 participated in a new gymnastics program for the school.
The program, coordinated by Sports in Schools Australia, leads children through gymnastics, team building and gross motor skills.
Every Tuesday for the next seven weeks, they will learn skills to perform gymnastics movements with correct technique, essential fundamental movement skills, while enhancing their team building in a fun, hands-on situation.
Teacher Katie Andrews said all students had fantastic experiences throughout the day.
“My classroom is right near where the gymnastics was being held and it was such a great feeling to hear so much laughter and positivity coming from every class who went through the activities,” she said.
Student have been delighted with the program.
Some of the reasons they gave for this is because they can work with friends, try new things, and learn how to correctly do gymnastics.
“I loved having fun on new and exciting equipment and being able to hang out with friends,” Year 1 student Myah said.
Throughout the term, students are expected to grow in their ability, and the program will aim to match this development.
Also, the curriculum varies depending on the needs and capability of each grade.
“We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Bengalla Mining Company, who gave us a generous contribution to our program,” Miss Andrews said.
“This allowed us to significantly reduce the cost for our families and we are extremely appreciative to them.”
Bengalla community relations co-ordinator Debbie Day said Bengalla was pleased to partner with Muswellbrook Public School and support the Sports in Schools program.
"It is very important for students to learn the fundamentals of literacy and numeracy but it is also important that they develop their movement and social skills and Bengalla is proud to sponsor a program that provides a hands on, active learning experience," she said.
