On Thursday, February 23, Hunter Valley Local Area Command will provide a unique opportunity for residents to ask and learn about what police do in their neighbourhood.
The national wide Coffee With a Cop initiative, supported by The United States Department of Justice, is open to all community members.
Local officers will be at Fibonacci Coffee Shop, Muswellbrook Fair, Rutherford Road, from 9am to 10.30am.
Hunter Valley Commander, Police Superintendent, Steven Clarke said these interactions were the foundation of community partnerships.
“We hope that community members will feel comfortable to ask questions, bring concerns, or simply get to know our officers,” he said.
The purpose of the program is to advance community policing by improving the relationship between officers and residents.
Often when people interact with police, it is in times of emergency, or moments of heightened emotion.
Because of this, it can be hard for law enforcement to build relationship with the community.
It can also make people unsure if they can approach officers in the street.
However, Coffee With a Cop allows residents to sit, listen, share, and make lasting connections.
It is anticipated to be a way to break down barriers, and allow for relaxed, one-on-one interaction, over a cup of coffee.
Don’t miss your chance to be part of the fun next Thursday and to hear from representatives from the local command.
