FAMILY loyalty will be put to the test on the cricket pitch at Denman on the weekend.
While the town’s sporting fraternity celebrates Pink Stumps Day, with five competition games on the program, all the attention is turning to a special T20 encounter this Saturday.
And, the Dads v Lads clash appears set to become a regular fixture on the calendar, much to the delight of Denman Junior Cricket Club president – and under-14 coach – Peter Ball.
“It’s the first year we’ve hosted it,” he said.
“But, we’re hoping it’ll become an annual event.
“There are probably four or five fathers who play in the senior sides; and we’re expecting a couple of mums to take part, too.
“A lot of kids are talking about it – and getting a bit cheeky.
“However, it’s all a bit of fun for a good cause.”
Ball admitted the occasion was a great opportunity to raise funds for the McGrath Foundation.
“Any money we make will go towards support networks for breast cancer nurses, who provide a vital service,” he said.
“Already, we’ve sold pink hats and we’re auctioning off pink pads and an autographed Glenn McGrath cap.
“On the day, we’ll have a stall with pink cakes as well as a barbecue lunch with pink bread.
“Everyone’s looking forward to it.”
In the lead-up to Pink Stumps Day, a comedy and music show, Busted Out, is planned for The Denman Hotel on Friday night.
“We’ll be there selling tickets for our raffle, with items generously donated by local businesses Two Rivers, The Denman Hotel, Pukara Estate, Precious Pieces, Denman Dapkos, Hunter Valley Liqueurs, Baerami Olives and Wishes Hair Body Beauty,” Ball said.
“The McGrath Foundation will receive all proceeds.
“So, come dressed in pink and show your support.”
