Juniors, grass-root Milo in2CRICKETers and families, locals and sponsors gathered together to end 2016-17 on a high note, with the future of the sport in the district looking promising.
From the time everyone walked into the auditorium, Ainsley Ball’s many hours of slideshow editing created flashbacks of the season – the photos a collaboration of memorable hot moments patiently waiting around the boundary from Caroline Worth, Vanessa Whitten, Brenda Daniel and Chantelle Blake.
President Peter Ball led the proceedings with immense pride from all who have helped, especially secretary Vanessa Whitten and treasurer Brenda Daniel who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes.
Noted was an eventful season with the club continuing the non-competitive skills-based Milo in2CRICKET program, conducted by the Bowd family.
Another is in the works for 2017-18 with an overhaul for progression and expansion.
The very successful McGrath Foundation Pink Stumps Day, in aid of Breast Care Nurses for the local area, was unprecedented as was the Lads and Dads match held in conjunction, with funds also going to the charity.
The function included amusing speeches and acknowledgements from older junior cricketers who trained and coached the next generation.
Parents were thanked for their support on training and game days, as well as Roger Moore, Brenda Daniel, Gavin Scott, Ann and Peter Mills, Anthony and Caroline Worth, Alex Worth, Adam Whitten, Aidan Worth, Rachel Nugent, Cody Cummings and Daniel Wojcikewycz.
The under-14s, mentored by Ball, Jacob McCormick and Craig Heuston, enjoyed another successful season with the team narrowly missing out on a chance to play the grand final due to wet weather.
The under-16s reached the minor semi-final before suffering a narrow loss.
Life Memberships were presented to Ball and Anthony Worth.
The pair was recognised for their commitment and dedication to the club, including helping coach and umpire not only their own children’s teams, but also others including the Milo in2CRICKET program when they could.
Both have been executive committee members for more than a decade.
Ball has also held position of Upper Hunter District Junior Cricket Association president for a number of years.
Exceptional performances and achievements were acknowledged throughout the teams, too, from not only the award recipients but all children.
Lastly, the club thanked its sponsors The Denman, Rotary Club of Denman Inc., Denman IGA, Denman RSL Club, Hollydene Estate Wines, JMG, MMS Engineering, Denman Pharmacy, Precious Pieces, Wishes, Two Rivers Wines, Gavin Scott Plumbing and Regional Australia Bank for their ongoing support.
