Muswellbrook High School principal Elizabeth Bate addressed student leaders from schools across the Upper Hunter on Tuesday.
The pupils met in the Muswellbrook school’s MPC for the inaugural Upper Hunter School Student Leadership.
The program is a joint initiative between Where There’s A Will and Upper Hunter secondary schools.
Earlier this year, 18 senior students attended a National Student Leadership Summit in Adelaide, thanks to Where There’s a Will.
Following the inspirational trip, the young leaders decided to share what they had learned with their Upper Hunter peers.
Merriwa Central School, Muswellbrook High School, St Joseph’s High School, Scone Grammar School and Scone High School were among those participating.
Public Schools NSW Wollemi Network director Mark Young said he was proud of the initiative and praised the local principals for allowing it to happen.
“Education at its heart is about educating our children and young people as whole people,” he said.
“What a privilege and honour it is in education to bring the community of young people [together] so they can lead their peers in a positive direction for their whole life.”
