TEBB had other ideas, however, and produced a four-goal last quarter in scenes reminiscent of the 2016 Second Division grand final between these two teams, to run out 11-point winners, 10.6.66 to 8.7.55.
Cameron Benkovic kicked three majors and Mathew Merrett two for Muswellbrook.
The Cats were best served by Dominic White, Nigel Smith, Adam Higham, Matthew Dunn, Jackson Cook and Benkovic.
In the women’s fixture played at Dick Burwell Oval, league heavyweights Nelson Bay was in a destructive mood, defeating the Muswellbrook Cats by 156 points.
Final scores were Nelson Bay 23.18.156 to Muswellbrook 0.0.0.
The Cats were best served by Meghann Sawkins, Paris Adam, Natalie Heard and Tamara Garland.
Next weekend, the Plate side hosts Gosford at Weeraman Field, while the women’s team faces Lake Macquarie at No.1 Sportsground as part of the BDAFL women’s round.
