Now, local music lovers can find out for themselves when she joins forces with Drew McAlister for Country @ the Con at the Upper Hunter Conservatorium of Music (UHCM) at Muswellbrook on Saturday, November 4, from 7pm.
Bowtell first came to prominence as songwriter and singer for multi-award-winning country pop trio Bella.
Since then she has released two critically-acclaimed albums, Secret Songs (WJO) in 2012 and Heart of Sorrow (Maven/Sony) in 2014.
An innovative and creative songwriter, Bowtell defies musical constraint and easy classification, with influences reaching from pure country to blues, jazz and pop.
She also has her own distinctive voice and musical identity.
Her new release, Calling You, marks a distinct departure in musical style from her roots in alternative/pop country, brimming with the singer’s soulful, striking vocals and connecting deeply with raw emotion, highlighting the sublime and powerful voice that turned heads and four red chairs on national television in Channel Nine’s The Voice Australia earlier this year.
Now, the six-time Golden Guitar winner is heading in a new musical direction, with a broader, larger audience ready to follow.
“I’m no longer willing to be confined in a ‘genre box’,” Bowtell explains.
“I want to show a wider audience my full range as a singer and songwriter.
“I feel so connected to Calling You, the songs are bright, bold and exciting and I can’t wait to share them.”
Bowtell is a Toyota Star Maker winner, MO Award winner, a six-time Golden Guitar winner, a 2013 APRA Song of the Year finalist.
In 2017, she was nominated for seven Golden Guitars, five with Bennett, Bowtell and Urquhart and two for Vocal Collaboration of the Year, winning two with Bennett, Bowtell and Urquhart for Best Alternative Country Album and Group or Duo of the Year and one herself for Vocal Collaboration of the Year.
Residents can purchase tickets - $30 or $25 (concession) – at the UHCM office or at www.uhcm.com.au
