Theatrical pieces such as The Singing Mermaid, Black Dog, It Takes Two to Twit Twoo, Thelma the Unicorn and A Squash and A Squeeze entertained youngsters, as well as pre-school pupils, in the venue’s hall.
MHS drama teacher Dana Hogan said it was great to see the project finally come to fruition.
“The Stage 5 [drama] class began several months ago – and they’ve devised everything,” she explained.
“I spoke to Gail Southwell, from MPS, who liked the idea.
“So, at the start of Term 3, the high school students read five different story books to the kids.
“They then spoke to the pupils and gained further feedback.
“The drama class took that information on board and, hence, developed the concept of performing those separate tales.”
Ms Hogan admitted the “assessment task” fulfilled many objectives.
“The students have spent the past 10 weeks rehearsing, as well as making the sets and costumes,” she said.
“But, they’ve enjoyed the challenge.
“I think meeting the MPS pupils beforehand allowed them to make an important connection.
“And, I guess, the presentation is more meaningful to everyone now.
“It’s also given the MHS students a sense of purpose.
“So, it’s worked out really nicely.
“Even though it’s the first time we’ve done this, we’re looking at making the performance a biennial event.”
