The school was honoured to welcome special guests Barry French (Uncle Charlie), Leanne and Jacob Ellis, Mr and Mrs Stair, Raelene Price and Renee McDonald to attend the ceremony.
During the formalities, Uncle Charlie led the Welcome to Country and students in the Aboriginal dance group, led by Jacob Ellis, performed and provided entertainment for all visitors.
“This fabulous new addition to the school grounds has already been utilised by pupils for reading activities and provides a fantastic space for a variety of learning programs,” Denman Public School principal Megan Druitt said.
“The significance of a yarning circle in Aboriginal culture is to share knowledge, establish rules of respect and encourage conversation.
“This addition to the school grounds compliments the comprehensive program already in place to support students in the development of their knowledge of Aboriginal culture.
“Each week pupils have the opportunity to learn about all aspects of indigenous culture, heritage and language.”
