YOU better watch out, you better not cry, you better not pout, I’m telling you why – Santa Claus is coming to town.
And, for the second consecutive year, the jolly man in the red suit will be aboard a Muswellbrook Fire & Rescue NSW vehicle.
Following its success in 2016, the ever-popular Fire Truck Santa Lolly Run is returning next month.
South Muswellbrook will be the first beneficiary between 4.30pm and 8.30pm on Tuesday, December 5; followed by the eastern part of town on Wednesday, December 6.
The itinerary then heads to north Muswellbrook on Thursday, December 7 (again from 4.30pm to 8.30pm).
Muswellbrook Fire & Rescue Station 392 retained firefighter (RFF) Luke Simpson said the response in 2016 was “fantastic”.
“It was the first time a ‘lolly run’ had taken place in town for 15 to 20 years,” he admitted.
“The community certainly embraced the concept.
“From the feedback we received, everyone loved it.
“We believe it brought a lot of happiness to both children and adults.
“Plus, it was great to spread Christmas cheer around Muswellbrook.
“Many residents also provided the firefighters with ice blocks and drinks, which we appreciated.
“Last year we walked more than 40km in the heat handing out the lollies [over three days].”
RFF Simpson said all major areas would be covered around Muswellbrook.
“It’ll be pretty much the same route, with a few minor changes,” he explained.
“But, we’re all looking forward to it.
“The Muswellbrook and District Workers Club has donated $1000, while other businesses have thrown their [financial] support behind it, too.
“We’d like to thank all the sponsors who are on the map, as we would not be able to do it without your help.
“In 2017, we’ll also have a ‘live’ tracking map to let people know where we are.
“Just go on to our Muswellbrook Fire & Rescue Station 392 Facebook page.
“It is important kids stay on the footpath with their parents/guardians, too.
“We’ve also updated the sound system on the fire truck, so everyone will hear us coming.”
