PREPARATIONS for the $100,000 MRS Services Group Muswellbrook Gold Cup are in full swing.

And, so too, are plans for the Muswellbrook Cup Festival Charity Golf Day, which will be played on Thursday, December 7 – on the eve of the big meeting at Skellatar Park.

More than 120 participants, with that number expected to rise, will converge on the Muswellbrook Golf Club to assist the Where There’s A Will (WTAW) Foundation.

Muswellbrook Race Club (MRC) chairman John Sunderland said the organisers were hoping to build on last year’s success.

“We’re over the moon Magic Millions is on board as a sponsor – it should be a terrific event,” he told the Chronicle.

“And, even better for Where There’s A Will.

“WTAW is doing great things for young people in the area, so we’re happy to help them.

“We’ll look to support a different charity each year.

“The golf day also complements the [Muswellbrook] Cup day – we’re hoping to make it an annual weekend, which will draw visitors to the region.

“The Calcutta will start from 5pm with the Big Sports Breakfast’s (BSB) Terry Kennedy, Jimmy Smith and Dave Stanley attending and the TAB’s Glenn Munsie hosting.

“The BSB boys are also doing their show from the racecourse on Friday morning.

“We’re running a promotion for people to play alongside Glenn Munsie, too.

“There will be a heap of prizes on the day, such as hospitality packages at Rosehill Gardens and naming rights races at MRC, while one of the highlighted auction items is a signed Melbourne Storm jumper featuring the autographs of the ‘Big Three’ Cameron Smith, Billy Slater and Cooper Cronk.

“Nomination forms are available from the Muswellbrook Golf Club (6543 1767) and must be returned to the race club to ensure your spot.

“Or, phone the [race club] office on 6541 1699 to book in your team of four.”

Where There's A Will's Andrea Burns said the not-for-profit organisation was delighted to be the beneficiary.

“Our thanks to the Muswellbrook Race Club for making this possible,” she admitted.

“We’re thrilled by the ongoing support for WTAW throughout the Upper Hunter.

“It should be a real fun day.”

The four-person ambrose begins from 9am with a 10am shotgun start.
