Four fenced sections are available, including the existing agility area, which is free and accessible to the public.
One of the spaces has been designated for more boisterous dogs, the second for smaller or older canines and another for dogs that are still learning to socialise.
Fencing of the area and the agility park, with its tunnels, weaving poles and balance beams, will allow the community to exercise their animal companions in a safe and friendly controlled environment and make the whole area secure for dogs, owners and the general public.
“Muswellbrook [Shire] was one of the first councils in the Upper Hunter, at least, to open a dog park,” mayor Martin Rush said.
“At the time we opened it, we had a small grant – I think $15,000 – and a bit of that construction is still here.
“But, there was a lot of community feedback that suggested it needed to be increased in size.
“And, it’s fantastic that, for the moment, we’re back to having the largest dog park in the Upper Hunter again.
“I think it’s a great facility.
“It is split into numerous different areas, which means several dogs can use it at the same time.
“The park also boasts passive and agility aspects.
“We’re addressed other areas of concern, too, with the inclusion of shelter, rubbish bins and water stations.
“Council is really pleased to open this [today].
“It’s a first-grade facility – and I hope it’s well-used.”
