Kids and kids-at-heart raced their home-made billy carts down Carl Street, along with a number of corporate sponsors and mascots, such as Healthy Harold and The Easter Bunny.
Hunter Life Education, who hosted the event, executive officer Sarah Gray said the organisation just wanted to bring back some “good old-fashioned fun”.
“Our first-ever Hunter Soap Box Derby is a fundraising event organised by and for the benefit of Hunter Life Education, working to ensure young people of the region have access to free or subsidised life education lessons,” she explained.
“These lessons empower youngsters to lead safer and healthier lives through education.
“Our thanks go to all of the sponsors for supporting the Hunter Soap Box Derby.
“Hopefully, the event can go from strength-to-strength, similar to Gresford.”
The PCYC Muswellbrook car park was also a home to many of the festivities, including food and market stalls, family attractions, a baby animal petting zoo, fire engines and vintage cars.
