This is the third year MPS has coordinated the project and it allows the school to fulfil some of its syllabus outcomes, as well as providing an opportunity for the children to have some fun in a healthy environment.
Teacher and organiser Katie Andrews said it was one of the highlights on the calendar for the pupils – and they didn’t like missing the special occasion.
“The kids absolutely love it,” she explained.
“Half way through last term, they were starting to ask whether they were doing gymnastics again like they did last year.
“The kindergarten students were so excited, too.
“The year one [kids] were telling them all about it and they absolutely love it.
“And, every week they turn up with a smile on their face.
“They don’t want to have days off on a Thursday because they don’t want to miss gymnastics.”
Ms Andrews said the school was grateful they could run the scheme, as they wouldn’t be able to do it as a regular part of their curriculum.
“This program brings along all the equipment we can’t get,” she added.
“We’re also not qualified to teach the gymnastics, so we can bring in professionals to make sure it’s safe and things like that.
“And, it just allows the children to develop their gross motor [skills] as well as their gymnastics skills and coordination.”
She was very appreciative of their major sponsor, who helped with the funding.
“I’d just like to say a big thank you to Bengalla,” Ms Andrews said.
“They gave us a sizeable donation to our program, which allowed all of our families to participate in it, which is absolutely fantastic.
“They’ve also just given us another large donation to go towards our swimming program for next term so we are so, so grateful to Bengalla.”
