The Chronicle was made aware of the nasty incident, via Facebook and text messages, more than a fortnight ago.
However, information wasn’t as easy to ascertain, until this week.
“Officers from Hunter Valley Police District (HVPD) started inquiries after a sexual assault allegedly occurred at Hunter Park about 11pm on Monday, September 3,” a NSW Police spokesperson said.
“A 21-year-old woman suffered a laceration to her right hand and bruising to her body.
“She was then taken to Newcastle’s John Hunter Hospital for treatment.
“No arrests have yet been made.
“But, police from HVPD urge anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, which will be treated in strict confidence.
“The public is reminded not to report crime via the NSW Police social media pages either.”
