Benjamin Capovilla, Ellen Lavis, Mackenzie McEvoy-King, Oscar Moysey, Seleukos Sofianidis and Jimmieson are scheduled to venture to Athens and Lemnos in Greece, Villers-Bretonneux in France, Passchendaele in Belgium, and London as part of a 10-day program.
The winning students, from across NSW, were selected by a panel of judges following an essay competition on the Centenary of Anzac, sponsored by ClubsNSW.
ClubsNSW director Sallianne Faulkner said the club industry was proud to help educate the next generation about the importance of our Anzac history.
“It’s one thing to learn about Australia’s history in the classroom, but it’s quite another to physically retrace our soldiers’ footsteps abroad,” she explained.
“This is an amazing opportunity to provide a first-hand insight of the heroism shown by our Anzacs.
“I hope that they take their experience back to school to share with their classmates.”
The six winning students were announced by NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian and Minister for Veterans Affairs David Elliott at NSW Parliament House on Thursday morning.
“These Anzac Ambassadors will have the opportunity to walk in the footsteps of our diggers and deepen their understanding of a legacy that has shaped Australia’s history,” Mr Elliott said.
The 2018 Anzac Ambassadors will depart Sydney on Sunday, October 28, and return on Wednesday, November 7.
Member for Miranda Eleni Petinos and Rockdale MP Steve Kamper were among the essay judges and will chaperone students on the tour.
