A pastel Christmas tree. Forget red and green, the hottest trend of Christmas 2018 is pastel.
Glam up your tree with pretty pastel baubles and complement the look with icy silver decorations.
Springs of green. Bring the outside in with seasonal greenery. Fill vases with leaves and berries, supplement faux wreaths with natural flowers and trail branches of eucalyptus down the Christmas dining table.
Zero waste wrapping. Wrap gifts in cheery festive tea towels or use old newspapers as Christmas wrapping. Create festive cheer with red and green ribbons and adorn with berries and leaves from the garden.
A healthy keto Christmas feast. Try a healthier Christmas and use the principles of the latest nutrition trend; the ketogenic diet.
Use nut milk and coconut milk and switch out the sugar in your eggnog for a plant based alternative to have a happy keto Christmas.
A slice of the beach. Yes, we miss out on the snow and crackling fires, but a warm Christmas still holds many joys.
Decorate your tree with strands of discarded beach wood strung together or drill a hole in a few shells and use string to tie them to the branches.
Some vintage appeal. Christmas is a time for tradition so get the kids together, pull out the craft box and make some Christmas cards. Build your own gingerbread house or spend a night together decorating the tree.
An Aussie flavour. Use traditional Aussie plants in your decorating including eucalyptus and Kangaroo Paw to bring a local flavour to your home.
Get your hands on lemon myrtle to bring the scent of summer inside.
Stacks of golden things. Modern metallics are a big trend this year. Look for rose gold, gold, silver and bronze and use them generously in your decorating.
Festive wallpaper. Choose a wallpaper that incorporates the colours of Christmas to bring the festivity to your house all year round.
Design rule of threes. Place object such as vases, plants and presents in three’s. This creates a cosy, comfortable look and also forms a circle which will make your room feel welcoming.
Coordinated colour. Try and stick to a colour scheme of 60/30/10. Use your main colour in 60 per cent of decorations, your secondary colour in 30 per cent and your accent colour in 10 per cent.
You can go crazy with clashing patterns and textures if you stick to a strict colour palette.
Joy, peace and happiness. The most important decoration of all this Christmas season is the family and friends that you place at the centre of your celebrations.
