HE’S been an integral part of the Denman sporting landscape for decades.
And, at the Muswellbrook Shire Australia Day presentation ceremony on Saturday, Peter Barry deservedly took home the Services to Sport Award.
He was recognised for his outstanding contribution to a code he loves dearly, through his involvement with the Denman Devils Senior Rugby League Football Club and Denman-Sandy Hollow Junior Rugby League.
His citation stated: “Peter continually volunteers his time at meetings, submits funding applications, organises events and coaches”.
In doing so, he became the second family member to receive the honour, following father Neil Barry’s win in 2010.
The hard-working stalwart also pipped Brook Senior Cricket Club and Muswellbrook Junior Cricket president Peter Cooper for the accolades.
“I know both men well, so that would have been a hard one to separate,” councillor Graeme McNeill said.
“Peter [Barry] and Peter [Cooper] do so much for their respective sporting organisations.
“And, they’re a credit to the local community, too.”
In July, last year, council unveiled the Neil Barry Stand at the Denman Recreation Area – a terrific acknowledgement for the hard-working stalwart who celebrated six consecutive decades of service to the club in 2018.
