NEWLY-appointed St James’ Primary School principal Aaron Moon is promising his Muswellbrook students will “learn, laugh and have fun”.
The popular former St Joseph’s Primary School leader at Denman has taken over the reins from Niamh Marzol, who is now overseeing St Catherine’s Catholic College in Singleton.
And, while he’ll miss his old haunt, he’s looking forward to the next stage of his career.
“I loved my time at St Joseph’s – I spent 10 years there,” Mr Moon said.
“It was an honour and a privilege to be the principal.
“Knowing everyone in the community, and being supported by great staff, was a fantastic experience.
“So, I’m hoping to do likewise here.”
Mr Moon admitted the opportunity of challenging himself, at St James’, was too good to pass up.
“It’s a much bigger school – with 25 staff and 266 students,” he said.
“I’m keen to drive the curriculum a bit more as well.
“It is totally different [here] but nice.
“Everyone’s been really welcoming, accommodating – and very understanding.
“The kids are also amazing.
“Although they’ve got to learn, they can have fun, too.
“We’ll always have a strong academic focus.
“However, you can’t be serious all the time.”
Mr Moon said an exciting new era loomed for St James’.
“Even though we’ll take it one day at a time, great things are on the horizon,” he explained.
“We’ll keep moving ahead – and stay fresh.
“From the parents I’ve spoken to [so far], they love being part of this school.
“And, for good reason too.
“I also have an open door policy.
“I’m happy to talk to anyone.
“It’s important to have a terrific rapport – and relationship – with the pupils’ parents and families in order to give the children the best.
“I want people to feel at home here.”
The leadership merry-go-round didn’t stop at Muswellbrook over the Christmas-New Year break either.
St Joseph’s Primary School Merriwa’s Helen Whale moves into Mr Moon’s vacant office at St Joseph’s Primary School Denman, while St James’ Primary School acting principal Ashley Borg steps into Mrs Whale’s role further up the valley.
