Recently, carloads of excited children travelled to Scone in rainy conditions to compete in the annual Group 21 Gala Day.
The fixture is designed to encourage newcomers to try their hand at a different sport and, for others, to improve their skills in a fun team environment.
The under-7 side started its day with a convincing win against St Mary's Scone and progressed to their next round where the boys were narrowly defeated by an impressive Muswellbrook South PS.
Every player scored a try on the day with seven-year-old rookie Aaliyah boasting on Monday morning to staff "I scored the first try of my life".
The under-8 outfit came up against a very tough opposition in their first match and, although defeated, enjoyed a hard-fought battle to the final whistle.
DPS was strongly represented in the under-9 division culminating in a very successful day.
The youngsters displayed great skill in the muddy conditions and, after defeating St Catherine's College Singleton, progressed to the final against Scone Public School.
DPS was too strong and came away with a convincing victory and the under-9 trophy.
Following a great comeback to win their first game against Muswellbrook South Public School, the under-10s progressed to the next round where they were defeated by a talented and very experienced Scone Public School.
Principal Megan Druitt is thrilled with Denman Public School's success across all areas of the curriculum including sport.
KNIGHTS KNOCKOUT
AFTER a successful weekend, Denman Public School laced up the boots again on Wednesday to participate in the NRL Knights Knockout Competition in Newcastle.
The under-10s consisted of a group of determined and skilled young players who displayed fantastic sportsmanship throughout the day.
The team played against some strong opposition from the Hunter/Newcastle region and remained undefeated.
The players will now travel to McDonald Jones Stadium in Newcastle and play the final against - you guessed it, Scone.
"We look forward to a great Upper Hunter battle with St Mary's Scone in July," Ms Druitt said.
