At just 18-years-old he's already been starting matches this season, playing primarily as an outside centre.
But part of Hobden's appeal is his ability to fill in all over the field, having spent much of his junior years as a forward but has since displayed talent on the wing and as a back.
His versatility should be a weapon for the club this season according to coach and president Mick Hall.
"He's been really enthusiastic at training at the start of this year, he's running good lines and he's defending really well," he said.
"He hasn't played a lot in the backs but having played with some experienced guys last year I think he's taken on board their instructions and they've mentored him pretty well."
Hobden is less bullish about his abilities but does believe he can handle the responsibility this season.
"I think I'm a pretty good ball runner and I can use it well, plus my tackling is getting better so I can help out down back," he said.
When asked if he had any players that he looks up to and models his game on, he revealed that it was hard to go past New Zealand great Sonny Bill Williams.
While nobody is expecting him to produce that sort of quality just yet, his coach said Hobden could achieve a lot if he just believes in himself.
"He has got a lot of ability, it's just about that transition from playing junior games into seniors and not being intimidated by older people," said Hall.
"If he can get over that hurdle this year and have that confidence in himself then it will be good."
The rising talent is convinced he can make a significant impact in 2019 but stated that he doesn't feel too much pressure.
"I just really enjoying playing and having a run, I just hope that translates into doing well for the team and helping us achieve more," he said.
With a trophy to hold onto it's a credit to the club that they're willing to continue bringing through the next generation, and they'll be hoping the Hobden name lives on through their ranks for many years to come.
This is part one of four in our Muswellbrook men's Rising Stars series, tune in for more on the Eagles and Rams' up and comers over the next week.
