AN upgrade on the New England Highway at Muswellbrook will force changed traffic conditions from this weekend.
The improvements, to be carried out between Aberdeen Street and Sandy Creek Road, are scheduled to start on Sunday, May 19.
It includes rebuilding the highway, as well as the entry and exit of an existing rest area, and installing new roadside guardrails.
To reduce impact on motorists, work will be carried out between 6pm and 7am from Sunday to Thursday and is expected to take four weeks to complete, weather permitting.
Following this, work to install a safety barrier and carry out drainage maintenance will be carried out between 7am and 6pm on weekdays.
That's expected to take two weeks to complete, weather permitting.
For the safety of motorists and workers, lane closures and a 40km/h speed limit will be in place during work hours.
People are advised to drive to the conditions, and follow the direction of signs and traffic control.
Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) thanks motorists for their patience during this time.
