THE Muswellbrook Eagles have grown used to kicking goals this season.
But, the organisation's latest success is arguably their most important as they raised thousands during their recent charity golf day.
It was the first time the football club had hosted such an event, and it was a fantastic beginning with approximately $4000 being generated between fundraising activities and the golf itself.
Variety Australia, the beneficiary of the day, helps support the nation's sick and disadvantaged children.
The money will be given to Variety Bash Team Triple 7, who will in turn use it to strengthen their fundraising abilities.
A spokesperson for the charity explained their aim and what they're able to accomplish through donations such as the one they have received from the Eagles.
"Our work allows kids to gain mobility, to get out and about in the community, to communicate, achieve independence and increase their self-esteem," they said.
Club vice-president, player and all-age coach Brodern Adam-Smith was one of the event's most prominent organisers, and stated he was elated with the reception it received.
"The Eagles felt it was a perfect charity to support as we have a massive number of juniors involved with our club," he said.
"Being our first ever event like this I didn't know what kind of response we would receive.
"The local community really got behind our club and supported our idea."
The day itself was partaken in with good spirits, as various community and business groups from around the region came together to have some fun for a noble cause.
Overall, 56 players were involved, which Mr Adam-Smith admitted was far more than the club originally expected given it was the event's debut.
A number of key personnel played a role in getting the day up and running, including Muswellbrook RSL and Golf CEO Daryl Egan, Eagles treasurer Ian Tomlinson and Variety's Adam Regan.
Donations and sponsorships came in from industries all across the town, ranging from Coolmore to Happy Tooth to MRS Services.
