With competitors - junior and senior - reaching speeds of almost 35km/h, the spectators lining Carl Street enjoyed the best seats in the house.
Although the fundraiser will benefit Hunter Life Education, having a great time was the main aim of the event, according to executive officer Sarah Gray.
"Kids and kids-at-heart are racing home-made billy carts downhill in suburban Muswellbrook, vying for winner's bragging rights," she said.
"That's what the day is all about.
"Good old-fashioned fun.
"And, Hunter Life Education is working to ensure young people of the Hunter have access to free or subsidised (life education) lessons.
"That empowers the youngsters to lead safer and healthier lives though education.
"Local business has provided much support of this event, specifically Muswellbrook Shire Council, Coates Hire Muswellbrook, Regional Australia Bank, PCYC Muswellbrook and Woolworths Muswellbrook."
Following the official opening ceremony, the Muswellbrook PCYC precinct played host to Healthy Harold, food stalls, family attractions such as free face painting, market stalls, military equipment on display, fire engine with hose play, and baby animal petting zoo.
