TWO teenagers who stole a vehicle and engaged police in a high-speed pursuit between Muswellbrook and Singleton this week will attend Children's Court later in the month.
About 10.40am on Monday, July 1, the youths - aged 15 and 16 - entered the open garage of a property on Isobella Street, Muswellbrook.
They then took the Toyota Avalon sedan, which was parked on the premises, without permission.
The vehicle was spotted approximately an hour later travelling in a southerly direction on the New England Highway.
Hunter Valley Police District officers attempted to stop the sedan.
However, the duo ignored the request and sped up.
A police pursuit was initiated, but later terminated - due to the manner of driving - as the vehicle entered Singleton.
The sedan continued at speed on the New England Highway, near the intersection of Kent Street, and attempted to undertake a number of cars.
The driver then lost control and hit a parked vehicle and power pole before coming to rest.
Both young men ran from the scene and attempted to hide from the police.
But, they were located shortly after and arrested.
The 16-year-old was charged with break and enter, stealing and driving the motor vehicle.
The 15-year-old was charged with the break and enter and being the passenger in the vehicle.
Both juveniles were bail refused.
