Site set-up preparations began on Tuesday for the construction of three noise abatement walls along the rail corridor - one at Simpson Park and two along the railway line behind the Campbell's Corner precinct.
The 2.4 metre high walls will reduce the noise of trains and assist in minimising the impact of noise on the community.
Muswellbrook Shire Council was granted $1.95 million form the NSW Government's Restart NSW Resources for Regions program to undertake detailed investigation, design and construction of the noise walls.
With millions of tonnes of coal passing through Muswellbrook on the railway lines each year, it is expected the project will help to alleviate the noise from the trains, open the area to outdoor dining and allow cultural and community events to take place in Simpson Park without interruption.
The works are scheduled to be completed by mid-October.
